Swimming with the NWZ-W273 Walkman® waterproof MP3 player

So my question is:

Are there many people actually buying these and using them regularly when swimming? I am really tempted to hit the buy button because I am in the pool at least a couple of times a week and in theory the idea sounds great and really appeals to me. So anyone using them?

Water Ingress in W273!!

Had my NWZ W273 for 24 hours. I charged it, transferred music onto it and took it to my local swimming pool at a health club 1.5m depth, I found that once water had got into my ears I couldn't really hear much even with the volume on full blast then after about an hour the unit died making some rather disturbing noises. I suspected it may have been the battery but having docked it and found out its completely dead I can only suggest water ingress. Swapped at Argos this afternoon, I really hope i don't have to swap this every time I go swimming as its got a 12 month warranty and provided I use it within sony's specifications this could be a big loss for sony if it keeps happening.

NWZ-474/Windows Media bit rate problems...help please !

Hi all....my Walkman NW-474 arrived today and i transferred one mp3 album from Windows Media Player at a bit rate of 192kbps but when i right clicked on a track that i had transferred and clicked on properties it was displaying a bit rate of 0kbps and naturally will not play...now i realise that i am probably doing something wrong in regards to my rip settings in Media Player but can't quite figure what so i would be extremely grateful if some kind soul could help please !

I have a Sony NW A3000 mp3 player. Recently I formatted my pc and I've discovered just now that sonicstage, which is essential to put music on my player, is discontinued and I can't download anymore. I am not an mp3 player person normally but now I would like to use it, so I was wondering how can I download sonicstage or put music on my nw a300.

Z Walkman stuck on loop after firmware update

My Z Walkman is stuck in a welcome screen loop of the "W" logo, which artistically & repeatedly splashes into vibrant colours upon start-up and never initiates the Android lock-screen. This happened after "successfully" updating the firmware from 1.21 to 2.01 on my Sony Vaio LA1 (still running XP)

After phoning support to determine my unit's origin (bought new on eBay [5/6/12]) in order to download the correct firmware file (UK), I went through the steps via Sony Support: plugging in the device and turning USB mode on - the unit showed this, with the Android character being the correct colour. I invoked the firmware (0014) file and left it 10-15 minutes. Returning, I closed the "you have successfully updated the firmware" window and then unplugged the Walkman from the PC. I noticed it was already looping the "W" at this point and sure enough, that's all I've had since. I've tried multiple resets - once even repeated tapping for 1min+ keeping the screen black. Resetting plugged into the PC or a mains supply, but no joy getting passed the logo.

Plugging/unplugging into a PC during the loop does mount/unmount the Walkman as a "removable drive x", with the classic windows sound (I run XP) as a signal, but the "removable drive" is empty; does not appear as a Walkman, so running the firmware file again has no effect.

Are there any tips/tricks left to try? I've updated the firmware once before, some months ago, so not sure what has happened.

If I have to send it in, would I be under warranty? I know I bought on eBay, but it was brand new/sealed and inside a year of that purchase date. I have order receipts for the purchase date of 5 June 2012. I still have the original packaging/contents.

I've loyally been using Sony items for 15+ years. All my go-to items are Sony, from my DAB radio (CMT-FX250), to my PC (currently VGC-LA1 and before that NV109M laptop [accompanying my Sony minidisc player]), to my portable audio (Z Walkman as well as the X I loved before it and also the A816). But this could be my first real call on the support side, unless someone out there can help?

Hi Everyone...

Really hope someone can help me here - I have a Sony Walkman NWZ-S544, 8gb. It has been great for 3 years now, but, suddenly the audio through the phone socket has stopped working - I have tried several different earphones and external speaker, and still nothing. However, sound still comes out of the internal speaker no problem.

Everything else on the player is as normal.

Any thoughts on how to potential fix this, or if it can be repaired, or is it now dead?! I really hope not as I really like this mp3..

Experiencing Transfer problems from Hi-MD to My Library in SonicStage

I have had my MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD for a very long time using it for mostly recording band rehearsals via dedicated microphone, mastering vinyl to digital format and just recently backing-up my Sonic Stage Library to transfer my own personal material from a now redundant PC.

When I have come to transferring the files back to my library on a new & different PC, I have adopted the usual process and get to the point of pressing the "big red transfer button" and nothing more occurs. Basically, no transfer occurs!

Has there been any alterations to the Sonic Stage program to stop this option from occurring? Or has anyone else encountered this problem?

Any suggestions?

English UK dictionary

Hi,

I have an NWZ-F806 walkman and I can't get the UK English dictionary to work. Oddly it only recognises words with apostrophes in them, which it corrects as I'd expect, every other word gets a red squiggle underneath.

I have checked the keyboard language and the dictionary language and both are set to UK English. I've also tried deleting the UK English dictionary and reinstalling, but that hasn't helped.

Any suggestions?

NWZ-W273 not showing as device in iTunes on mac

I have a newly purchased NWZ-W273 which I have successfully connected to my mac - the 'Walkman' is accessible in Finder. I know I can add music via Finder, however, much easier for me would be to drag and drop in iTunes (playlists etc.).

Unfortunately, my Walkman does not appear as a Device in iTunes - iTunes version 11.0.2 (26), OS X 10.8.2. I was wondering if anyone has managed to get this working?

Hi, I have just bought the NWZ-E474, it all seems a nice player and don't have any other issues with it, when i use it i always have the volume at about 26-30, i am finding that each time i turn it off then back on, the volume is always reset to 15 and is a bit annoying already and ive only had it a day lol

is this a fault as it seems a silly feature as i would expect a lot of people would prefer the same level each time they turn it on, you can then just turn it down yourself if you wish rather than always having to turn it up each time.

I am not sure if there are any software updates, my fw currently shows as v2.0, so not sure if there is a newer one i can get anywhere that fixes this issue?

I have an NW-HD5 and a windows 8 computer.

Is there any way I can still use the player?

I do not have the software, and I understand that Sony dues not let anyone download it anymore,

and that it dues not work on windows 8.

So, is it possible to get music on it again?

No it's empty and says no database. I can drop music in it, but the player dues not find any.

Pretty annoyed at Sony right now...............

Hi,

It would seem that Sony have deserted users of older products using Windows 7 as their operating system. I have a NW-A3000 hard drive mp3 player which is still going strong and I wish to load and unload songs to and from it. I can find nothing on the Sony site to help. Does anybody out there know any workarounds to acquire suitable drivers and software to run my NW-A3000 using Windows 7. Also, if I do not have the latest firmware upgrade already installed can this be done using Windows 7?

I use my Nw-A3000 only on holiday. Having changed my OS to Windows 7, I no longer seem able to add or delete from the songs currently stored on my NW-A3000. Is there some Sony software that will allow me to do this or a workaround that I could use to allow me to add or delete songs using Windows7?

I just bought a Sony Walkman NMZ-E474, I connected it to my computer and it says "Connect USB. The player cannot be operated." The computer is not recognizing the walkman. I tried 3 different computers and it says the same thing. I tried restarted the computer and nothing. I tried downloading Media Go, not working. I tried going to the common settings menu on the walkman to connect to the computer, not working. I tried formatting the walkman, not working. I tried reseting it, not working. Can some please help me?

I bought the above for my daughter for Christmas and it was working brilliantly until I had to change my processor and power supply for my pc.

Today I hooked the gizmo up to my pc (the battery was totally dead and it had taken me a while to find the cable as I had put it away with my other spares for "safe" keeping), the PC couldn't install the necessary drivers. I tried different USB slots with the same effect.

The PC recognises that I've hooked something up but wont go any further. Can you guys help me please as I'm totally stumped and don't want to have to return the gadget to the shop.

NWZ-A845 No sound on MP3/videos, sound via radio!

Hi!

My NWZ-A845 is not producing sound via headphones, when listening music or watching vidoes, but sound works via headphones when on radio! What could be the problem?

It should not be 3.5mm jack port, if the radio plays ok, right? I formatted the player and reseted to factory settings, pressed the reset pin, but problem persists...

Any advice would be appriciated!

PS: I bought the player like that, so I think somebody has messed with the settings in service menu or something, unfortunately I do not know how they should be by default...

Update: What I've noticed is if I pull out headphones while listening to music file and then slide the connector in slowly in the 3/4 way in the headphones start to play the music, but very, very quiet (barely noticable), even when on max volume...

Update2: I think I'm gona dissasemble the player tomorrow, as I think it might be the headphone socket. I think so, because when on radio, I don't even have to plug in the headphones entirely in to get them to produce full sound, not even slide them in at all - just put in before midway...

I have recently experienced occasions when my device is not recognised by the PC only to find that reconnecting gives me temporary connection which then stops for no reason. I am using the supplied USB cable. Any ideas?

NWZ B173 Walkman LCD Screen

Hi All

I'm very fond of my NWZ B173 walkman, I always have it with me to listen to audio books, which really helps keep me motivated when I'm on a 3 hour run. Problem is, I sometimes forget to check my pockets when I throw my sweaty running gear into the wash (this is my third MP3 player in 2 years, because I keep doing this!). Yesterday I managed to rescue my walkman after about 30 minutes in the washing machine and the good news is it still works after drying out for a while. The bad news is the LCD appears to be permanently polarised. I'd really like to change the screen, but can't find one on ebuy. Has anyone found a source of screens? I'd hate to buy a new device just because of this (again).
