nice lens but noisy

It is a nice lens with good results both in still image and on video. Unfortunately, everything stop there! The lens is too noosy for use in with friends in an event like wedding. Even on video you can hear the focus micro-adjusting. Due to the noise, i learn to shoot with the back button focus and that only in single focus as the continuous focus sounds like a tractor. I prefer my manual off brand 50mm f1.4!

Das 50mm F1.8 hinterlässt einen hochwertigen Eindruck und zeichnet sich durch eine bemerkenswerte Schärfe in seiner Preisklasse aus. Für Anwender, die ein kostengünstiges Objektiv mit exzellenter Bildqualität suchen, stellt dieses Produkt eine hervorragende Wahl dar. Die einzige Einschränkung betrifft den Fokusmotor. Es ist zu erwarten, dass dieser in der Preisklasse von 180 € nicht die höchste Geschwindigkeit erreicht; jedoch ist er auch signifikant lauter als andere Sony-Objektive. In der praktischen Anwendung erweist sich dies jedoch als nicht übermäßig störend.

After a month of using, so far, autofocus is responsive enough great for stills. When recording videos, picture quality is really good but whenever it autofocuses, it makes a noise that can be heard when you record videos.

Best budget lens for bokeh

The Sony FE 50mm F1.8 is arguably the best budget lens at this price point for Sony full-frame cameras. It delivers great portrait photos with beautiful background blur (bokeh) thanks to its wide f/1.8 aperture, which allows for excellent subject isolation and low-light performance. However, it does come with a trade-off — the lens produces noticeable focus noise while autofocusing. While this might not be a deal-breaker for photography, it’s less ideal for video work, where silent operation is crucial. So, while it can create great videos, I wouldn’t recommend it for video recording due to the noise. That said, for the price, it’s a fantastic lens for anyone looking to shoot sharp, vibrant portraits without breaking the bank. Overall, it’s a great value for the price and an excellent addition to any beginner or budget-conscious photographer’s kit.

Tout est dans le titre. Pour un objectif plein format 50mm qui ouvre à 1,8 il n'y a aucun équivalent aussi compact et dans cette gamme de tarifs. Ni dans la gamme Sony ni chez les tiers. Alors oui ça pourrait être mieux (sélection manuelle du mode de focus, bague de sélection de la focale) mais en 2024 ça reste le meilleur compromis que j'ai trouvé pour voyager léger sans me ruiner.

The literal worst lens I’ve ever used.

People go on and on about “if you don’t need to shoot sports this is a hidden gem”. Don’t believe them. This is the actual worst first party lens I’ve ever used. Not only is the autofocus non functional (as in it hints on a static object, like a building, in full daylight) but when it does “lock” it’s wrong. I took 35 autofocus photos. Not one was in focus. You may say.. wait a building, trust me I tried everything including half a building with a blue sky behind it. For those long time experienced Sony users. My original rx-1 focuses at least three times faster than this lens on an a7iv. So fortunately I also decided to test sharpness. So I set it to f11 and focused about a a third if the way into a scene inside the DOF - awful. I focused directly on a few objects, awful. It’s less sharp than a 2010 nex kit lens. It hunts in broad daylight, it locks out of focus on a building even, it’s cheaply built, it’s not sharp, no weather sealing, bad manual focus feel, there is nothing redeeming. Again, and I really can’t stress this enough, it’s the actual worst first party lens I’ve ever owned across 5 major camera brands. Don’t buy it. Mom shocked they’re still putting this out there, it’s an absolute stain on their reputation. Everyone has a nifty fifty. None of them are this bad. Let’s see if Sony accepts this review.

Sehr gute Bildqualität und sehr gut verarbeitet. Zu dem Preis ein sehr lichtstarkes und gutes Vollformatobjektiv. Autofofokus ist auch sehr genau, aber etwas langsam, besonders bei wenig Licht. Bin aber durchaus zufrieden mit dieser Festbrennweite.

Great value lens for the price but noisy

Overall a good low cost prime, your classic nifty fifty. Everything put together while for the price but would have liked a pouch to keep it in that you get with other manufactures like Viltrox 20mm. Biggest issue is motor noise, its loud and audible on video

not bad for the price

using this lens already 2 years. I like it! It came with the version 1 firmware and the focus motor was extremly loud. but after updated to the ver. 3 the motor went bit quiter. Still loud but for photography its okey. otherwise only few time its fail to find the focus.

4 jaar geleden DSC RX 10 M4 gekocht. Dat is de voorloper van de alpha 7 IV die ik nu heb gekocht door het vertrouwen in Sony. Alpha 7 IV verwend mij nog meer, zo’n prachtige opnames heb ik gemaakt.

Bought the 50mm as it as cheap and wanted to use it for portrait photography. Outstanding results given the price! Would highly recommend this lens, especially for beginners, it’s great for learning with.

Schönes Objektiv mit relativ guter optischer Leitung. Allein der Autofokus ist sehr sehr laut, was die Nutzung des Objektives sehr einschränkt. Ich helfe mir, indem ich auf manuellen Fokus schalte, wobei hier das verstellen de Fokus durch den Fokusring auch noch ERHEBLICHE Geräusche verursacht. :-( Schade, denn der Preis ist sehr attaktiv, aber die Gesamtleitung passt trotzdem nicht. Nicht akzeptabel - sorry

Lente didattica, costa relativamente poco, focale fissa, buona apertura, ottima per imparare, ma non va oltre questo. Qualità costruttiva discutibile, sembra quasi plastica. messa a fuoco pessima, lenta, perde il fuoco e spesso capita che va a fare all infinito zoom in e out quando perde il tracking.

ottica onesta, da comprare considerando il prezzo

E' un'ottica che fa il suo lavoro. E' molto economica se paragonata al resto delle ottiche proposte da Sony. L'autofocus è buono, non molto veloce anche con l'ultimo aggiornamento ma comunque sufficiente. La nitidezza è discreta già a TA, diventa ottima a f2,8 e giù di lì. Non sono un grande amante del 50mm, però l'ho presa perché il rapporto qualità/prezzo è imbattibile, spesso si trova a cifre molto basse (sui 150 euro) durante i giorni di offerta dei maggiori siti di ecommerce.

Ci ho messo un po' di tempo per effettuare l'acquisto in quanto alcuni utenti non davano giudizi positivi debbo dire invece che la qualità è eccellente buona nitidezza, migliorata la problematica dell'autofocus lento col nuovo aggiornamento, da A7III in poi va abbastanza bene. Se si usa per foto consigliatissimo per video userei più un 35 f1.8. Insomma per il prezzo non si può avere di meglio anzi vale molto di più.

Exactly what you need it to be

I needed a simple 50mm for street photography, had to be lightweight, and compact but have a reasonably fast aperture. Didn't want to break the bank so this little nifty fifty was a great buy. It has drawbacks 100%, it's not the fastest AF in the world, it's not the sharpest tool in the box, and it's a little noisy but it's a workhorse! It's very light, the 1.8 aperture gives a beautifully soft background, and its sharpness is not that bad, especially for social media. If you want a reliable, fast, cheap Sony branded Prime lens, you simply can't get better.

Great lens for the money.

I brought this lens a couple of weeks ago to mainly use for automotive photography (shows) works great, great image quality. Only negative would be it has struggled sometimes with focusing where I want it to focus but not all the time, not a deal breaker for th money.

Ich bin im Besitz einer Sony Alpha 7 M 3 mit 24 MP Auflösung. Das 50mm war meine erste Festbrennweite und für einen unschlagbar günstigen Preis von 175€ neu bei einem Internet Großhandel liefert es für mein Verständnis absolut scharfe Bilder, tolle Farben und einen direkt sitzenden Autofokus. Man kann natürlich auch Pixelpeeping betreiben und alles im Labor zerfasern, was einem nicht passen könnte, aber für mich als Hobbyfotograf ist das Objektiv ein absoluter Preis-Leistungsschlager, an dem es wenig auszusetzen gibt. Es ist, klein robust, macht die Kamera nicht wuchtig und schwer und liefert beeindruckende Bildqualität. Wie gesagt, die Objektive erreichen bei gewissen Sensorgrößen und Megapixeln auch ihr Limit, aber für meine Ausrüstung und meine Ansprüche einfach wunderbar. Ich habe mir, für einen anderen Bildschnitt allerdings das teurere 35mm FE f/1.8 zugelegt und bin dort genauso begeistert.

Obtenu à prix très bas sur le site Sony, livré dans d'excellentes conditions, ce 50mm F1.8 équipe mon A7II et propose des images de qualité conformes à l'espérance : piqué de belle facture sur tout le cadre dès 5.6 et même bien avant, selon les cas et les cadrages, contrastes parfaitement relevés, colorimétrie de belle teneur et grande ouverture . L'autofocus me semble suffisamment véloce et précis et je n'ai pas été confronté à des lenteurs comme j'ai pu le voir par ailleurs dans certains essais etc... (Niveau de qualité réévalué peut-être par le constructeur pour cet achat de 2023 ?) . La qualité perçue ne pose pas souci, tout est fonctionnel et cet objectif semble d'une robustesse tout à fait convenable, livré avec son pare-soleil réversible d'usage aisé ... Belle performance également en mode APSC sur cet A7II ... Une limite toutefois - il faut bien lui trouver un petit défaut - dans la capacité de réaliser la mise au point mini à une distance de 45cm... Bref, achat évident et objectif incontournable ...

Great optics but very slow focus

Compact, sharp and produces good looking images, bokeh is fine. The price tells everything. Good allrounder and great for starters. Unfortunately the autofocus reliability is questionable. I tried few portraits and those were great. After I tried some portraits of flowers in garden and there it struggled with autofocus especially when the flowers shaked due to light breeze. The size of the lens is great.
